The engagement ring

Picture
Prior to getting engaged, my husband and I went ring shopping to get an idea of what style I liked. At the time, I was obsessed with the 3-stone rings the most, but also liked solitaires with a unique band. Yellow gold was a must because that's what I've grown up wearing and am used to. Husband is really bothered by the whole "blood diamond" issue and still doesn't trust some of the big name jewelers, so he came across the website Brilliant Earth that carries on Canadian Diamonds. In January of '09 after checking out some jewelers, he asked me to pick some of the designs I think I would like. It was hard to say because they were online and unable to try on in person. I selected a 3-diamond band and this band as my top choices. Just over a month later he proposed to me with this ring! I love the unique scrolling on the sides of the band.

Wedding bands

This is close to what my wedding band is actually like (actual can be seen in first photo at top of page). Because my center stone sits so low on my engagement ring, any band you put next to it leaves a gap between the two rings, which is something I didn't want. So Brilliant Earth did a custom shared prong diamond band, just like this except curved just slightly to sit flush with my e-ring (the diamonds go halfway around). Really love the two paired together, and thinking down the road it might be nice to have one for the other side of the e-ring to even it out. I just have to be careful though, considering that one of the diamonds disappeared during our honeymoon after only five days of wearing it! Had to get them to fix it when I got back.

Originally hubby thought he was going to want something unique in the styling of his band, but we came to realize that there were only so many styles that work with the look of yellow gold. He opted to go with a very comfortable 5mm 18k yellow gold comfort fit wedding band, and he's very happy with it!
